Gwyneth Paltrow to kids: 'Sorry I'm not Britney'

Paltrow reads Dr. Seuss at Sundance – and promises to work on her dance routine

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow faced an unexpectedly tough audience at the Sundance Film Festival on Wednesday – a room full of children in Saturn's Read Across America tent.

As Paltrow was being introduced as a very special guest, one of the kids piped up: "Is it Britney Spears?" Taking the comment in stride, Paltrow laughed and said, "I'm sorry I'm not Britney Spears, but I'll work on my dance routine."

Paltrow, a mother of two, won over the crowd by leading them in a rousing impromptu sing-along of "Consider Yourself" from the musical Oliver!

Next, she pulled out the Dr. Seuss book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish – "my daughter's favorite," she said. It also seemed to be a favorite of the 52 second graders, who had come from McPoland Elementary school in Park City, Utah, decked out in Cat in the Hat hats.

The 34-year-old actress, who was in Park City to promote her film The Good Night directed by her brother Jake, also talked to the kids about the importance of reading.

"If we can't read and don't enjoy it, life isn't as interesting," she said. "When you read a book, you can use your imagination, you have a picture in your head. I love to read."

Judging by the reaction to her reading, Paltrow earned herself some new young fans. When she asked, "Who's going to sit on my lap?" she was greeted with excited squeals and the sound of "Me! Me! Me!" as the kids gathered around her.
