Where were Brad and Angelina?
Angelina Jolie did not attend the Academy Awards because the actress is back in Africa to monitor the crisis in Darfur in her official capacity as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the U.N.'s refugee agency. Though she cannot visit Darfur itself, Jolie will be stopping by refugee camps two miles away from the Sudanese border. Meanwhile, Pitt, whose film Babel was nominated for Best Picture, is keeping down the homestead in New Orleans (where he's been filming The Mysterious Case of Benjamin Button).

Jennifer Hudson not only wowed with her Oscar-winning performance as Effie, but she had some of the most dazzling diamonds on the red carpet, including a big, bold colored diamond ring created by Neil Lane, as well as a diamond necklace and earrings from the famed jeweler. Even more stunning was her stage bling: While performing during the show, she wore a pink 25-carat diamond ring worth $10 million, a fab white-diamond-and-platinum bracelet and $1 million pear-shaped white-diamond-and-platinum drop earrings.

That dashing young man whose bowtie she straightened as they stepped out of their limo? That was Dunst's brother, Christian. For a little sibling – he's five years younger than the 24-year-old Marie-Antoinette star – Christian gets some pretty good perks, with this being his second time accompanying her to the Academy Awards. Are Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams still together? I noticed she wasn't his date.
The Best Actor nominee (for Half Nelson) arrived with two very important women by his side – his mother and his sister. As for girlfriend Rachel McAdams, Gosling told PEOPLE a night earlier that "she's working," which meant she also missed his win at the Independent Spirit Awards, where he took best male lead.
