Wills flies plane alone for first time
Thursday, 17 January 2008
Prince William has completed his first solo flight - despite only having had 8 and a half hours of pilot training.
Wills' tutor left him alone in the cockpit on Wednesday and he took to the skies of Lincolnshire alone.
'It was an amazing feeling, I couldn't believe it,' says the 25-year-old. 'Once I'd taken off it was fine."
Captain Andy Naismith, head of the flying training school at the Cranwell base, was impressed by Wills’ performance and says he's a quick learner.
‘He is definitely at the front end of the scale,’ the Captain tells People.com. ‘Most do [their first solo flights] after between 9 and 11 hours [of training].’
The Prince is on a four-month tour with the RAF and hopes to have earned his ‘wings’ by April.
