Harry Potter author makes shock announcement
Monday, 22 October 2007
JK Rowling shocked audiences in New York when she revealed that Harry Potter character Albus Dumbledore is homosexual.
The writer dropped the bombshell at Carnegie Hall where she answered a question from a young fan who wanted to know if Dumbledore ever found love.
JK replied that he was actually in love with Gellert Grindelwald – a fellow wizard.
'Falling in love can be blind,' she said to applause.
'I'd have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy.'
And the news has pleased gay rights activists who have commended the author for including a diverse range of characters.
'It's good children's literature includes gay people,' Peter Tatchell tells the News Of The World.
'But making it obvious would have sent a more powerful message.'
