Mika and rapper Akon were the big winners at the World Music Awards last night.

Flamboyant singer Mika, 24, scooped 4 gongs - he was named Male Entertainer of the Year, the World's Best-Selling New Artist, the World's Best-Selling Pop/Rock Male Artist and Britain's Best-Selling Artist.

Akon – who took home 3 awards at the ceremony in Monte Carlo, Monaco - beat Fergie, Beyoncé Knowles, Timbaland and Rihanna to the coveted R&B artist award, along with being crowned Africa's Best-Selling Artist and the World's Best-Selling Internet Artist.

‘You are witness to seeing me receive any kind of award for music the first time in my life,’ Akon, 34, announced in his acceptance speech.

And guests toasted music legend Celine Dion, as she received the prestigious Legend Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Celebs at the ceremony included Denise Van Outen, rapper Shaggy, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, and Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon.
