Archie - My Mad Fat Diary eye candy alert!
It's a topic that doesn't get old (even if I'm getting older).
I don't think anybody forgets how hard it was being an adolescent. Boys! Bad skin! Wearing a swimming costume in front of your crush! Every day was a minefield.
And I have high hopes for My Mad Fat Diary.
The show is a dramatisation of Rae Earl's real life diaries, and tells the story of Rae - a 16 year old, 16-and-a-half stone girl - who's just got out of a psychiatric hospital.
She's mad about boys, mad about really good music (the soundtrack is one of the show's best bits - think Blur, Morrissey and the Beastie Boys and you're there), and even more fixated on keeping her ‘mad' past a secret from her new mates.
The show gives a really refreshing look at mental health. It's such a big subject and it needs to be tackled more.
In episode one I could already see that ‘best mate' Chloe is going to become a TOTAL bitchy frenemy to Rae.
I love frenemy storylines. We've all been there, right?
And Sharon Rooney as Rae is brilliant. She's got these wide magnetic eyes that suck you in. I just want to give her a hug and tell her that it's all going to be ok.
I can't wait for next week's episode. This is definitely the coolest new show on TV right now.
- My Mad Fat Diary is on E4 on Mondays at 10pm
