The X Factor: Freak fest

Week two of The X Factor and the freaks are out in force. My only complaint is that only two of them were really memorable.

The Stunners were an exercise in stupidity. They not only genuinely thought they could sing, but were convinced they were lookers as well.

They were not. Then there was scary-eyed, leather trouser wearing Behrouz . He sang the Scissor Sisters badly and did more crotch thrusting than was necessary.

For some insane reason though, despite looking disturbed, the judges decided he was entertaining and put him through.

The majority of the show this week was taken up with a lot of mediocre singers. Michael, Rochelle and Victoria weren’t bad, but I have to agree with Simon Cowell when he said no to them. They just didn’t have that extra ‘something’.

This was thrown into even sharper focus when Rozelle from Trinidad and Tabago came on. She may not have looked as much like a pop star as the previous three, but she could sing them off the stage.

The other two stand out performances this week were from Miss Fitz who did a brilliant version of Britney Spear’s Toxic and Jamie – the man with the afro. He wasn’t your average Mariah Carey belting out auditionee.

In fact he was really good. He got Simon singing and may even be my favourite audition so far. I just hope being a bit rock and roll he doesn’t go the same way as Tabby did. See you don’t even remember him, do you?

And finally here come the sob stories. I thought it had been a bit quiet on the blubbing front this year. Don’t get me wrong Daryl seems like a very nice bloke and can clearly sing, but I don’t see the need to bring up the fact his brother had recently died unless it’s to somehow try and get further in the competition.

Maybe that sounds a little callous, but I just don’t see the need. He could have got through simply by singing the way he did.

Over on ITV2 The Xtra Factor continues to outshine the main show by being a lot funnier and making the judges – even Dannii – seem like they have a sense of humour.

High moment this week included contestants unable to get out of the pod, the man with the disturbing bulge in his trousers, curry roulette,

The Presentinators and the revelation that Louis Walsh wears pyjamas in bed. I know! I think I love him.
