Funk to funky

Life On Mars sequel is 80s-tastic...

I fancy Gene Hunt. There I’ve said it. I know it’s wrong, but it feels so right.

I know he’s not attractive and the character is a total sexist pig, but in the same way I have to admit I fancy Ray Winstone he has that certain brooding something about him.

I was a huge fan of Life On Mars, so I was concerned Ashes to Ashes wouldn’t live up to expectations. Thankfully it was ace.

The clothes were appalling, the haircuts even worse, but luckily when it came to picking the 80s music for the backing track they actually picked some half descent stuff.

It was a bit style over content though and some of it was just plain ridiculous [speedboat and machine guns for example]. Keeley Hawes’ character is also a touch on the annoying side and took a ridiculously long time to change out of her hooker outfit.

However, Gene still gets some cracking one-liners and that’s kind of what it’s all about. There was also a particularly scary clown and for some reason that is a good thing.

I’m still not sure why Keeley’s character didn’t just kill the man who shot her as it would have created a paradox where he wouldn’t have been able to kill her in the future because he would no longer exist [my boyfriend watches a lot of Sci-Fi, OK?].

Then again, if it was supposed to make perfect sense I suppose Life On Mars would never have happened in the first place.
