In all seriousness, if we really did have only four minutes to save the world, would we leave it in the hands of Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland? Probably not, but judging by the first track from Madonna's Hard Candy album, it may not be the worst place to start.
With Madonna turning 50 this year, there's been a much debate in the media about whether she can still take the pace. 'You've got a lot more experience and tend not to make the same mistakes,' she's said. 'It's great to feel experienced. But I also work with people half my age so I feel I have to work even harder to keep up with everybody but the fact of the matter is I can kick all of their asses.'
Some have said that Madonna's ingenuity comes from her ability to recognised the zeitgeist and hijacking it. Enter Timberlake and Timbaland. Personally, I think Madonna's new material's the best she's ever released, and I'm not about to get into any mud-slinging, but having seen the video to Four Minutes To Save The World I'm not sure she was doing very much arse-kicking. In fact from what I saw, apart from some lame-ass faux free-running, Justin Timberlake was being very gallant about toning down his smokin' hot dance moves so Madonna could keep up with him.
Undeterred, Madonna's not about to hang up her dance shoes just yet. 'I want more, more, more. I'm not stepping down. I'm stepping up career-wise. There's no exit plan,' she adds.
As she gyrates her way into her half century, some might say Madonna's new mantra should be just because you can doesn't mean you should, but I reckon anyone who's still break dancing in a Dolce & Gabbana corset with Justin Timberlake on the eve of her fiftieth birthday should get the respect she deserves.
