Happy Birthday Vidal Sassoon!

The high priest of Great British hairdressing turns 80 today

Vidal Sassoon was the world's first celebrity hairdresser and one of my all time style superheroes. Growing up around his boundary-pushing haircuts and iconic images of the 1960s made me realise what a powerful force fashion could be.

And to paraphrase another one of my style superheroes, Derek Zoolander, it was Vidal Sassoon’s work that made me want to be a Style Editor.

Vidal once told me, ‘The essence of creating a visionary look is so people can learn, take it away then develop other looks that come from that and put their own talents into it.’
