I'm l-o-v-i-n' French Connection at the moment. Apart from the ill-judged decision to cast Sadie Frost's ex-boyfriend, the sub-standard Russell Brand-alike and sorry excuse for a male model Jackson Scott to front their menswear campaign, they can't put a foot wrong in the fashion stakes right now.
(Don't misunderstand me, I’m ALL about male models. In fact, you may find this hard to believe, but my last boyfriend was a male model who couldn’t turn left at the end of the runway, just like Derek Zoolander. But Jackson Scott? Purleeeease!)
Eagle-eyed Planet Fashionistas will have clocked me in not one but two different French Connection outfits on WAGS Boutique last week- the must-have sequin shift dress worn by everyone from Natalie Imbruglia to Cat Deeley, and a butterfly print button-front tulip skirt with their satin cropped jacket.
Now my latest fashion dilemma is do I invest in the re-released grey French Connection parka? It’s a full-length empire line, dressy take on the traditional theme, which I resisted buying when it hit the high street the first time around because I have three parkas in my wardrobe already: a navy blue vintage version with a bright orange lining - think primary school playground circa 1979; a green Alpha parka which is so heavy duty it could house a small Eskimo family throughout an Arctic winter; and a finally fishtail Mod style that wouldn't look out of place in cult movie Quadrophenia.
There’s a lesser-known style commandment that nothing ever truly comes back in fashion, there’s always a subtle twist, a nuance that makes it different from how it was before.
So to keep in step with the black tunic dresses and steely shades of grey in my spring wardrobe, and despite the fact the sun’s come out again and summer’s on it’s way, it looks like I’ll be adding the French Connection parka to my burgeoning collection.
