While my friend Party Animal’s hunting for the meringue of her dreams for her impending country nuptials on the blog-next-door, here on Planet Fashion, plans are afoot for an altogether more bohemian wedding.
Fear not, Planet Fashionistas! If there’d been any whirlwind romances or surprise proposals from millionaire male models (or nearest offer) accompanied by the requisite cushion cut Tiffany diamond ring, with graduated bead-set side stone-adorned shanks, you’d have been the first to know. It’s my friend Jenn’s who’s getting married and we’ve got two weeks to find her a dress.
Now there’s nothing more exciting than choosing a wedding dress with one of my girlfriends – except perhaps the prospect of buying one for myself one day! - and I’m always incredibly touched to be involved in something so very important and so intensely personal.
Much like myself, Jenn imagines getting married a 60s inspired tunic dress, and judging by the high street this season, she could be in luck. French Connection has a fetching line of white tunics, including a bell-sleeved style that has my name on it, a sparkly, sequinned version and a pretty pleated number. Not to be outdone, Jaeger London’s offering has a Peter Pan collar, bib front detail that looks like something Twiggy would have worn in 1966 when she was still cool.
Jenn compared wedding dress hunting with me to being on a makeover show where you get to go shopping with a celebrity stylist. All part of the service! We jumped in a cab straight to Burberry on Bond Street, where Jenn had her eye on an A-line dress with balloon sleeves and a £1,200 price tag. Next stop was Zara, where she tried the white version of the Chloe-esque puff-sleeved number Susie wore to the ELLE Style Awards in black, but so far, when it comes to tunics, it would appear there’s a fine line between swinging 60s chic and looking like you’re scrubbing up to perform a major operation.
