If my eyes aren’t lying, the video to Beautiful Liar, Beyoncé’s collaboration with Shakira Shakrira was like watching a car crash
The feisty females have joined forces for this toreador themed track about the fool who two-timed them. Been there, done that, loving the sentiment, girls, but it may as well have been billed as Beyoncé’s latest single with Shakira on backing vocals.
Hips Don’t Lie may have been one of my favourite songs of last summer, but a decent booty shake will only get you so far. Shakira’s always going to be known for that one played-out dance move she’s got rather than being a vocal virtuoso, so she was always going to come off second best sharing a stage with Beyoncé. Maybe someone should have thought of that? Maybe someone already did. Probably Beyoncé’s manager!
And closer to home, Sugababes can be heard wiping the floor with Girls Aloud on their ill-judged duet for Comic relief, Walk This Way. I’m all about the old school, so it can’t hold candle to hip hop giants Run DMC and rock legends Aerosmith who laid down the original, but with their velvety vocals and you-KNOW-I-got-soul attitude, Sugababes make Girls Aloud look like they should be sent back to pop star school where they belong!
