There was a time when you couldn’t watch MTV without a track produced by Pharrell Williams or his production collective The Neptunes…Think Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl, Mariah’s Say Somethin’, Snoop’s Drop It Like It’s Hot, and EVERYTHING on Justin Timberlake’s first album.
Now Mr JT’s swapped Pharrell’s slick, sexy hip hop beats for Timbaland’s dirtier, more menacing sound for his latest album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, and it seems the whole of the music scene’s following suit! Omarian, Diddy and Snoop all have Timbaland-produced albums out this year and even Nelly Furtado’s jumped on the bandwagon.
And predictably, Madonna – who’s legendary reinventions usually involve pillaging trends and editing them into her videos like krumping in Hung Up and free-running in Jump - has just snared the producer of the moment to work on her and JT on her new album. Yawn.
