Death by maxi dress

Fashion victim? Moi?

There’s no doubt that a floral maxi dress is a must-have in every Planet Fashionista’s wardrobe this summer, and the hottest the high street has to offer is the Miss Selfridge orange ditsy print floor sweeper as sported by Colleen McLoughlin.

As Star Style Editor of Now magazine, I pride myself on being able to pull together a look for every occasion, and when I was in Singapore, I found myself in need of Catholic church chic fit to impress the archbishop to wear at my cousin’s confirmation ceremony, so I headed to Singapore’s branch of Miss Selfridge and snapped one up.

At a petite 5ft 4in, however, I didn’t count on myself being swamped in fabric, and spent the whole day as a health and safety risk worrying about getting caught in taxi doors, or being dragged under the wheels of a bus.

Quite possibly the most embarrassing incident of the day was when I nearly cleared the table with it at afternoon tea with the ever-so-sassy Sharon Lim, the Editor-In-Chief of Singapore ELLE, at the island's uber trendy PS Cafe on Orchard Road's swanky shopping mall The Paragon who was like "Are you gonna be ok on the escalator?!"

After mass, our whole family had dinner at one of those seafood restaurants where you pick your lobster out of a tank, so it got dragged along wet floor there, and I got home my sisters to find that somehow, I had a load of straw caught up in the hem!
