Under the pretence I was buying it for Mrs Tay, Michael Buble’s new album, Call Me Irresponsible, became the unlikely soundtrack to my summer holiday. I always say I’m all about the old school, but I’m usually referring to old school hip hop.
Yet something about hearing the suave singing sensation swing his way through Sinatra standards, big band classics and even his schmaltzy ballads always makes me involuntarily snap my fingers and sway in time with the music.
Can you imagine having Michael Buble as a boyfriend? Devil Wears Prada actress Emily Blunt – who currently steps out with the Canadian crooner - is a lucky girl. But being serenaded with It Had To Be You on the piano every night after a hard day’s work at Now HQ would wear a bit thin after, like, a week.
The girls at Now will find this hard to believe, but as well as my embarrassing Michael Buble obsession, I’m also battling an addiction to KFC. Apart from the obvious reasons, KFC violates the basic principles of my Organic Pharmacy detox - namely no bread, no milk, no chicken, no potatoes, no caffeine, no alcohol - or as our Showbiz Writer Little Karen puts it ‘whatever food groups you're shunning this week.’
But when I was in Singapore, the call of the Colonel and the lure of that special blend of 11 herbs and spices proved to be no match for me, and since calories don’t count on holiday, I scheduled in a sneaky trip to KFC for a portion of finger-licking chicken, chips, coleslaw and chicken gravy last week. Mmmmmmmmm!
And if you’re reading this Michael, it also makes me a really cheap date!
