Not Feeling it

The Ellis-Bextor-Joneses play style snap

Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her matching muso husband Richard Jones are an uber-coordinated couple

I’m a firm believer that fashionistas and rock stars belong together. But what I’m not a fan of is the suggestion that any of their combined coolness should look in any way contrived.

I have a lot of time for Sophie Ellis-Bextor. I’m also rather fond of The Feeling – the indie band her husband Richard Jones plays bass for. I even saw them live at a secret gig in Hoxton Square on the off-chance I’d catch a glimpse of Sophie, which I did.

But I’m certainly not feeling their carefully chosen his ‘n’ hers cobalt combo for Lulu Guinness’s 20th Anniversary soiree at the V&A, which smacks of the kind of trying too hard only rivalled by the Beckhams.

Love your Lulu Guinness lips clutch, Soph, but next time, save the coordinated couple look for a family wedding, not a fabulous fashion party.

For more lush lips clutches, don’t miss my brand new column The Week In Trends next week’s issue of Now.
