Desperate situations call for desperate measures, so on Saturday morning I found myself in blustery Bloomsbury for a dating seminar called Get The Guy: The Secrets Of Attraction.

To my surprise, I walked straight into a conference room full of stunning blondes. The most striking looked up at me sympathetically, mouthing “Get The Guy? That’s next door…”

Ouch!

Meanwhile back at The Secrets Of Attraction, some were looking over their notes from the last seminar, and alarmingly one turned to me, whispering in hushed tones, “You look familiar. Did you come to the last one?”

With Jamie Cullum as his backing track, enter Matthew Hussey, the real life Hitch, and suddenly the reason for the repeat business becomes clear. Think Matthew McConaughey meets Daniel Radcliffe – buck naked in Equus rather than waving his magic wand in Harry Potter - with a bench-pressed body in Diesel jeans, and it's obvious the secret of his success has as much to do with his male model handsomeness as his deftness as a love doctor. Cue coy, nervous giggling from the 40 alpha females in the audience.

Mainly me.

And by the end of the seminar, everyone had gained so much confidence that someone actually asked Matthew out on a date!

I would give away some of the secrets, but thanks to Matthew, I’m far too busy making rock stars fall in love with me now, and quite frankly, I could do without the competition.
