In memory of Brendan Sheehy
Monday, 12 January 2009
Historically, super-sexy, scissor wielding, celebrity hairdressers have caused me a lot of heartache, and Brendan Sheehy was no different.
Originally from Oldham just outside Manchester, Brendan attended St Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic High School with Mark Owen from Take That, who became his first celebrity client, then went on to coiff rock royalty including Liam and Noel Gallagher.
I should be telling you he shot to stardom as a session stylist in New York, for the last 10 years, his one-off brand of fast-living, hell-raising, hard-rocking hairdressing set style trends on both sides of the Atlantic, and he’s just done the hair in the new Oasis video for band's next single Falling Down.
But instead, I got a call at the weekend telling me, “Brendan’s dead.”
He was 35.
We’re burying him on Thursday.
And may God let us meet again.

I had known Brendan for 16 years and he will always remain on of my most treasured and dearest friends. He was a true inspiration to everyone who's life he touched. He was the first guy i ever loved truely and the fact that he has gone breaks me. I will hold his memory and the times we shared within my heart so that when i close my eyes, i can see him everyday. Rest in peace sweetheart, love you always xxx
I was lucky to be able to attend Brendan's very sad funeral yesterday and meet so many of his old friends. The priest said that he had never seen so many young people at a funeral. People came from all over to celebrate his life. Two beautiful touching speeches were given by his old friends Anthony and Morgan. So many people said that they felt so honoured to have this amazing man in their lives. He was obviously very loved by so many people and what an amazing family he has. Rest in peace Mr Sheehy, you will be sadly missed by all that knew you. Hope to meet again one day. Lots of Love Xxx
I was a friend of Brendan's throughout his school years and early work years. I can honestly say that I've never met anyone else like him. The world has lost a really special mate.. Brendan wasn't just some "run of the mill" fella - he was a maverick - never afraid of doing what he wanted .. going where the wind took him.. seeing things that most of us have never seen. Being Brendan was just being alive. He'd met so many people from so many places, touching each and every one of them along his way. I will always remember him with a smile... Carefree, fearless and untouchable.. And I'd like to think there's a bit of Brendan in us all... Love you mate Midge
I wasnt able to attend Brendans funeral on Thursday which broke my heart, i would of liked nothing more to pay my respects with his friends and family and am very sad i didnt get to, as i am sure many other people that live overseas were. He genuinley touched many peoples hearts and i do believe that he has left some of his cheeky fun loving spirit in all of us that knew him that will continue to live on. I am thankful to have known such a gentle, kind, mischievous guy and still cant quite digest that he will no longer be around raising hell.. He was a real one off. When i saw Brendan for the first time in New York i hadnt seen him for a couple of years and as we walked towards the salon where he was working sure enough there he was in his familiar stance outside in a denim jacket having a fag.....he never changed which is what was so loveable about him, it was like no time had passed atall from our Toni and Guy days in Manc, then it was off to M'ladys instead of the Chop house. The same Brendan different location. Untill next time Brend. Deepest deepest sympathy to his family for their loss.xxxx
I met Bren, or Tommy Lee McFlea as he always was to me, back in 97 at the height of the crazy Oriental Place days. He quickly became one of the best friends i've ever had. I loved the bones off him, still do, but then he was the love of all of our lives. Having both spent years away we both moved back home to Brighton within a week of each other. Coincidence of destiny? Who knows, but it was like we'd never been apart. We laughed til we cried. So glad we got you back for a bit, Chopstix. You live on in all of us. I know we'll meet again. Love you forever, baby! Love Molly, Peggy Sue and Tommy Lee Junior. And remember, 'Jump jump a little higher, Jump jump til you get higher!!!' Ha ya! xxxx
