Essensuals Jim Shaws Guide To Indie Boy Hair
Wednesday, 3 December 2008
Like Brit-girls-of-the-moment Alexa Chung and Daisy Lowe, there’s nothing I like better than a boy that looks like he’s an off-duty male model by day and plays in an indie band by night.
Fortunately, your boyfriend doesn’t need a modelling contract and a black Fender Bronco to get this look, as Essensuals Art Director Jim Shaw has distilled just the right measure of sex, runway shows and rock ‘n’ roll into his new men’s collection.
Taking inspiration from the clean lines and sharp tailoring of the Christian Dior campaign, the Men’s British Hairdresser Of The Year 2007-2008 told me, ”It’s a really exciting time for men hairdressing. Men have gone back to looking like men.”
“The grooming industry is growing so quickly and men don’t have to be ashamed of looking after themselves anymore.”
And to put his money where his mouth is, Jim’s opened the first Essensuals Men – a men only salon spin-off destination offering gent’s hairdressing, facials, wet shaves and waxing - in Essex, with more landing in London soon.
For the male model indie boy look, Jim advises a clean outline with a long heavy fringe. “I’ve dressed it with a mud clay such as Toni&Guy X-Clay Stick in a low side parting but it's a versatile look that can also be styled into a quiff.”
