A bass-player-slash-Christian-Dior-model-slash-record-producer from an achingly hip indie band you've probably heard of once told me, “If a girl’s wearing trainers, I know she’s not that interested. If she really likes me, she’d be wearing heels.”

In an ill-judged attempt to play down my excitement about being out for dinner with him, I was wearing trainers. I messed up.

Luckily, I’ve learnt my lesson, and following a trip to Brazilian-born shoe designer Chie Mihara’s HQ in Spain this week with my friends at Office London, I picked a pair of black patent heels that are Gwyneth Paltrow meets Torture Garden as a present from Chie herself.

To quote Sunday Times Style Magazine's Men's Fashion Editor, my friend Tom Stubbs, they’re dripping with altitude slickness, and I’ll definitely be wearing them for dinner with the next Intellectual Party Boy I’m trying to impress.
