The day I raced Nell McAndrew, Gordon Ramsay, Doctor Who and Coronation Street stars in the 2012 Virgin London Marathon
It's not every day I can say I've been sweating with Nell McAndrew, Sophie Raworth, Susannah Reid and Nikki Sanderson without my wife getting annoyed. Or that I've been chased round London by the casts of Coronation Street and TOWIE. Or that Doctor Who (well, Christoher Eccleston) managed to cheat time and space and finish twenty minutes ahead of me.
The Virgin London Marathon is in every sense an epic event. From start to finish - 26.2 long miles later - you are surrounded by fellow runners/sufferers. Pavements along the entire route are packed with cheering supporters, creating a wall of sound that carries you along. It's an extremely emotional experience.
Prince Harry joked that William and Kate will be running next year's London Marathon. Wills, if you need advice on where to put the plasters and Vaseline to avoid chafing the Royal nipples, give me a shout.
Here's how this year's celebs did:
Nell McAndrew - 2 hours, 54 mins
James Cracknell - 2 hours, 59 mins
Tony Audenshaw - 3 hours, 36 mins
Jenni Falconer - 3 hours, 53 mins
Michel Roux - 3 hours, 54 mins
Sophie Raworth - 3 hours, 56 mins
Nikki Sanderson - 4 hours, 3 mins
Tana Ramsay - 4 hours, 6 mins
Christopher Ecclestone - 4 hours, 17 mins
Gordon Ramsay - 4 hours, 26 mins
Will Young - 4 hours, 37 mins
Corrie's John Michie - 4 hours, 41 mins
Corrie's Paula Lane - 4 hours, 42 mins
Susannah Reid - 5 hours,12 mins
Melvin Odoom (Kiss FM DJ) - 5 hours, 13 mins
Ed Balls (Shadow Chancellor) - 5 hours, 31 mins
TOWIE's Cara Kilbey - 5 hours, 47 mins
BGT winner Jai McDowall - 5 hours, 54 mins
TOWIE's James 'Arg' Argent - 6 hours, 1 min
Callum Best - 6 hours, 2 mins
TOWIE's Billi Mucklow - 6 hours, 2 mins
And me? I managed a respectable time of 4 hours and 37 minutes. It would have been faster, but I got a naughty glute (bum muscle) at mile 21, that meant I had to stop, stretch and rub my backside in front of hundreds of strangers, whilst being overtaken by a giant mole called Tom.
But at least I beat Arg.
