Cheryl Cole's new tattoo is all about forgetting Ashley

I don't get it, what's nice about this?

Cheryl Cole undoubtedly chose her Versace number for the National Television Awards this week because it showed off the whole of her back.

The bondage-style dress, teamed with red heels, looked hot but her new tattoo is very odd.

Nice frock, Cheryl, shame about the body art.

Is it only half finished? I certainly hope so.

Cheryl seems to have the outline for some kind of foliage designed around the butterfly that sits on her spine.

There's an iris - or maybe it's a giant freesia on the left - and scrappy-looking fronds on the right, with half a lemon and a squashed doughnut in the middle plus a scattering of soot.

Cheryl's tattoo might look a whole lot better when it's completed, but why show it off now when it appears as if a two-year-old has gone mad with an indelible felt tip pen?

Of course, if you look at the tattoo upside down, Cheryl seems to be trying to ink over the name Ashley - or something very similar.

But, whatever's going on there, for me it's still not an attractive sight.

Yes, it's Cheryl's body, she can do what she likes with it. But she's a beautiful girl with a gorgeous smile and an amazing figure - why does she keep getting branded with more and more black ink?

I have a theory that a lot of people get addicted to tattoos because they don't feel right in their own skin.

It's a subconscious way of changing your outside layer, in the hope it will change your inner feelings.

Want to forget your ex-husband? Head for a tattoo parlour and tell the nice man with a ring through his nose and colourful arms, 'Pierce me over and over again, please.'

When Tinkerbell in a champagne glass, then the pretty dragon with pink claws doesn't stop you feeling like shit, you keep on going in the hope that a sparrow with a wink or a string of daisies around your wrist will do the trick.

Cheryl, Ash was never good enough for you. Just remember that.
