Comic-book caper Kick-Ass brims with black humour and action.
It's not for everyone - there's been a bigger storm over 12-year-old heroine Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) using the c-word than despatching too many bad guys to count with samurai swords and machine guns.
But though ultra-violent, it's a genuinely funny tale of how nerdy Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson, boyfriend of Sam Taylor-Wood) gets sick of being mugged for his mobile in New York and turns himself into the superhero Kick-Ass to fight back.
Dave orders a green wetsuit over the internet as his crime-fighting costume. But it's not that easy. He's a nice boy who's never been in a fight before the first time he stands up for himself he nearly gets killed.
But he bumps into real vigiliantes Hit Girl and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and soon the tables are turned as the crime-fighting trio take on Mafia kingpin Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong) and his wimpy son Chris (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) who longs to be a superhero too.
