Now Magazine's Style Editor mourns the passing of the mighty Yves Saint Laurent
Tuesday, 3 June 2008
Today I’m clad in head-to-toe black clutching my black patent Downtown tote in loving memory of Yves Saint Laurent, who died this week at the age of 71.
The French fashion legend brought us Le Smoking, super sharp, masculine tailoring, and safari chic two of this season’s most pivotal and perennial fashion trends, and YSL accessories have been rocking celebrity circles with the Tribute Pump, worn by the likes of Gwen Stefani and Victoria Beckham and the Downtown bag loved by Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue.
But if I’d know that Yves Saint Laurent once professed “To be beautiful all that a woman needs is a black jumper, a black skirt and a woman that she loves on her arm,” I wouldn’t have spent the best part of a month’s salary buying an YSL Downtown bag!
